Kayla Rimmon & Chloë Woodmansterne
Kayla Rimmon & Chloë Woodmansterne co-founded Aril Jewels in 2022, after gaining a wealth of experience in the fine jewellery industry independently and together at Hirsh London, from 2017 to 2021.
Chloë fell in love with jewellery at a young age. She began her jewellery journey making beaded necklaces and earrings and at 15 started silversmithing classes and went on to study gemmology and diamond grading at the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, before reading History at the University of Edinburgh. After graduating, she worked in the jewellery departments of Selfridges and Liberty. She then joined Hirsh London, where she managed the production of fine and high jewellery pieces and sourced some of the finest gemstones in the world. After four years there, Chloë worked at an independent workshop, which made jewellery for various Bond Street jewellers, as production coordinator.
Ever since her grandmother gave her a bead kit, aged eight, Kayla wanted to be a jewellery designer. She learned the basics of making jewellery at a studio in LA, where she grew up. She went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. There, Kayla learned traditional jewellery design from Maurice Gali, the designer for Harry Winston. After studying Art History at Hunter College, Kayla worked for various jewellers in LA and New York. In 2017, she moved to London, where she worked as the in-house designer for Hirsh London. She designed luxury jewellery and developed multiple collections. In 2023, Kayla won the GC&DC Fuli Gemstones Gold award for a tiara design that was subsequently made.
At the heart of Aril Jewels is the desire to express love and a connection with the past through jewellery. An aril is the jewel-like seed of a pomegranate, which is an ancient symbol of abundance, love, and marriage. When given as a gift, pomegranates signify the best of intentions. Aril Jewels has been nominated four times in emerging jewellery categories for national jewellery awards.
The Elizabeth Collection, named after Queen Elizabeth I, is an ode to the opulent world of the Elizabethan Golden Age. Drawing inspiration from floral motifs in iconic Elizabethan imagery and the Cheapside Hoard (a treasure trove of Elizabethan jewels unearthed in London) the collection is a celebration of the era's colourful exuberance. Roses, often associated with Queen Elizabeth I, are at the heart of the collection – a timeless symbol of love and beauty. The Elizabeth collection has been traditionally designed with gouache paintings by Kayla, ensuring each piece is beautiful from every angle. Exquisite gems are meticulously hand-picked by gemmologist Chloë before the jewellery is then brought to life by master craftsmen and women in London. The 18ct gold and platinum jewels are designed to spark joy and to be effortlessly wearable for modern women.
