María Manola Toro
María Manola Toro is a Chilean jeweller whose work is influenced by volcanic landscapes and the rocky shapes of the Andes. After studying design at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and completing a one-year jewellery course at Walka Escuela, she taught herself the wax carving technique, experimenting with different geometric and organic shapes. Manola established her business in 2018, selling her creations for five years at Espacio Colaborativo Nalca in Santiago de Chile. She relocated to London in 2021, where her pieces are now stocked by Tomfoolery London and Diana Porter Shop. Her work has been featured in publications, including Forbes, L’Officiel Arabia, and JCK Magazine. In addition to her permanent collections, she also works with private clients, designing meaningful bespoke pieces.
Atacama: A Collection of Desertic Geological Finds takes its name from a Chilean desert - the driest in the world. María Manola Toro draws inspiration from this vast, dry, soil landscape; the architecture of volcanoes and the Andes peaks, the cracked salty textures in the salares (salt flats), and the warm colour tones found in the soil and minerals. The collection features rings, pendants, and earrings crafted in 9ct and 18ct yellow gold, which showcase earthy-neutral tones in champagne, salt and pepper, yellow, and white diamonds. Small pops of green evoke the minimal local flora. Pavé settings and milgrain details add depth and a rich texture throughout the collection, much like the dry soil or the salt flats in the Atacama Desert. Each piece in the collection is imagined as a small find from this unique place.
